How It Works

Retainer & Contract

50% non-refundable retainer + signed performance agreement secures the date. Remaining balance due before the event.

Travel Zones

NYC bookings include travel (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Hoboken, Jersey City). The inner ring covers Long Island, Westchester, Northern NJ, and Greenwich. Hudson Valley and beyond are custom-quoted.

Song Requests

Up to 3 songs from the existing repertoire are included with every booking. Custom arrangements outside the repertoire are an add-on; ideally booked 4–6 weeks ahead.

Sound System

Every booking includes a low-profile, high-fidelity PA scaled to the venue: wired XLR for indoor rooms, battery-powered amplification for outdoor lawns and rooftops, and wireless lavalier mics on request.

Response Time

Julie reviews every inquiry personally and responds within 24 hours. A short video call follows before any agreement is signed.

Lead Time

For Saturday weddings in peak season, 6–12 months out is typical. Off-season, weeknight, and corporate bookings often work on shorter timelines.

Pricing FAQ

Wedding Violinist & Pianist Pricing — Common Questions

How much does a wedding violinist cost?

A wedding violinist for a ceremony in NYC starts at $595 for solo violin. Adding cocktail hour brings the total to $950 (ceremony + cocktail combo). For weddings in Long Island, Westchester, Northern New Jersey, and Greenwich, ceremony pricing starts at $695. Hudson Valley, Central NJ Shore, and Connecticut are custom-quoted based on travel.

How much does a wedding pianist cost?

Jazz pianist pricing matches solo violin pricing: $595 for a NYC ceremony, $950 for ceremony + cocktail hour, scaling up across the inner ring (LI / Westchester / Northern NJ / Greenwich). Julie performs both violin and jazz piano, so you can book either or both for the same event.

How much is a violinist for a wedding ceremony?

For just the ceremony (typically 45–60 minutes of prelude, processional, and recessional music), solo violin starts at $595 in NYC and $695 in the inner-ring zone. Every booking includes up to 3 custom song requests from the existing repertoire, a low-profile high-fidelity sound system, and prelude coverage.

What does a wedding ceremony + cocktail hour cost?

The combined ceremony + cocktail hour package starts at $950 in NYC. This covers about 2 hours of continuous music: prelude, processional, recessional, and a full cocktail hour set. It's the most-requested wedding package.

How much does a violin-and-piano duo cost for a wedding?

The Soul Shades violin-and-piano duo starts at $2,400. The duo is built for couples who want a richer, more produced sound: fuller arrangements with vocal-style melodies on violin over jazz piano. It works well for ceremony + cocktail hour or longer reception sets.

Why is pricing transparent here when most wedding musician sites hide it?

Most wedding musicians require an inquiry before quoting because pricing depends on date, venue, and travel. Julie publishes starting prices so couples can budget honestly. The booking price is the published rate plus any custom add-ons (extra time, custom song learning, additional musicians).
